United States groundwater Well Completion Datasets
This web page hosts links to state-level groundwater well databases. These state-level groundwater well data were collated and presented in three publications:
( - 1 - ) Perrone, D, Jasechko, S. Dry groundwater wells in the western United States. Environmental Research Letters 12, 104002 (2017).
( - 2 - ) Jasechko, S., Perrone, D. Hydraulic fracturing near domestic groundwater wells. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 114, 13138–13143 (2017).
( - 3 - ) Perrone, D., Jasechko, S. Deeper well drilling an unsustainable stopgap to groundwater depletion. Nature Sustainability, doi: 10.1038/s41893-019-0325-z (2019)
Some data use agreements linked to groundwater well databases do not allow us to reproduce these databases for download on our own web pages; to ensure water scientists can access these data we have created this web page showing where the primary well data are available for download (see table below). The raw data can be found by navigating the web pages and/or by emailing database managers associated with each organization managing the well data"listed in the third column in the table below. Links to websites hosting databases are in the rightmost column of the table. Steps applied to quality control each state-level database are described in detail in the Supplementary Information section of the aforementioned three publications. We also encourage individuals interested in groundwater monitoring data to explore the National Groundwater Monitoring Network here: link
